Elrich: ‘We Cannot Forget the Urgency of Climate Change’

County Executive Marc Elrich released the following statement commemorating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day.

As we mark the 50th anniversary of Earth Day in Montgomery County, we have a lot to be proud of, but we also understand that there is so much more to do. Montgomery County embraces environmental stewardship as a fundamental responsibility to preserve and sustain our planet and has been a longtime leader in sustainability.

Even while we are in the midst of a pandemic, we cannot forget the urgency of climate change. I am committed to leading the way to make our County greener, to make progress toward zero waste and to combat the climate emergency. And I look forward to doing that with our many partners throughout the County.

On this Earth Day and beyond, let us come together as a community and unleash our creativity and find innovative ways to preserve and sustain our County, our State, the country and the planet. We owe it to our children because they deserve to inherit a cleaner and more sustainable world. Together we can make a difference and save our planet for generations to come.
