Elrich, Hucker to Discuss Eliminating Fatal Traffic Deaths by 2030 with Community
County Executive Marc Elrich and County Council Vice President Tom Hucker will meet June 18 to discuss a 10-year-plan to eliminate fatal traffic deaths and kickoff an online survey that offers residents an opportunity to share input on the project.
“Our County is large and diverse, so achieving Vision Zero will look very different in places like Downtown Silver Spring than it will in Germantown and it will in Damascus,” said County Executive Marc Elrich in a statement. “That is why we need to hear from our residents on their needs and ideas for improving transportation safety in their neighborhoods.

The action plan is coordinated by the County’s Vision Zero Program introduced earlier this year, and highlights 32 action items categorized into five areas to assist in halting traffic deaths and improving road safety countywide. By the end of 2020, the county hopes to reduce fatal collisions on county roads by 40 percent.
Some priority corridors for the project include a strip along University Boulevard from Georgia Avenue to Colesville Road and a section of Crabbs Branch Way between Reland Road and Indianola Drive. In 2019, 32 people died in a fatal crash in Montgomery County.
Residents can access the June 18 virtual meeting beginning at 6:45 pm using the following link. The meeting will begin at 7 pm and offer an opportunity for questions and input from all attendees.
