Edith Throckmorton Neighborhood Park Closed For Renovations

The Edith Throckmorton Neighborhood Park is closing for ten months due to renovations. Construction is set to begin this month.

The 1/5-acre park, which is located at 3925 Hampden Street in Kensington, has been in its planning process since the winter of 2016, according to the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) renovation’s page.

The purpose of the renovation is “to renew the playground and picnic area for multi-purpose recreation and leisure uses while providing accessibility and stormwater management.”

The improvements of the park include open community spaces, multi-age playground, nature play area accessible walkways, lighting and site furnishings and landscape improvements.

M-NCPPC acquired the property in 1992 and named it after Edith Throckmorton, who worked in the Montgomery County Public School System for 20 years and retired in 1958.
