Drug Addiction Treatment Center Celebrates 20 Years in the Community

Montgomery Recovery Services in Rockville has served the community for more than 20 years by providing treatment options to individuals struggling with drug addiction.

Since trends among drug users and substances available have changed over the last two decades, staff decided to host an open house early Friday to re-introduce their services in light of the opioid epidemic plaguing the country.

“With the inception of prescription pills, it has just changed the game,” said Angela Caldwell, program coordinator and intake supervisor with Montgomery Recovery Services. “The population is younger and it’s hitting a different segment.”

According to Caldwell, there was a stigma 20 years ago that drug users were either poor and uneducated and that’s not the case anymore. Caldwell said the agency’s goal is to treat individuals struggling with drug addition, and to educate the community on coping with a loved one addicted to opioids.

“We offer medicated assisted treatment, individual counseling, group counseling, and a large referral base,” Caldwell said. “We also offer family sessions and we’re starting a group for loved-ones of the patients who want to come in and learn about medicated assisted treatment.”
