Nearly 50 high school students turned out to learn the art of the Flamenco dance at a special show and lesson held at La Tasca restaurant in Rockville Town Square. Students from Bowie High School who are enrolled in Spanish class practiced their Spanish ordering from La Tasca’s menu while learning about the Spanish culture from professional Flamenco dancer Sara Jerez and guitarist Richard Marlow.

According to a news release, Jerez has been teaching students Flamenco for more than 20 years and is a member of the Washington Performing Arts Society.

The celebration of Spanish culture continues this Sunday at Strathmore’s Feria de Sevilla event. The Centro Espanol de Washington DC will be hosting a flamenco festival. Visit the Strathmore website for more details.
