Doug Duncan Named President of Leadership Greater Washington
Doug Duncan has been appointed chief executive of Leadership Greater Washington, a community organization that provides training and networking programs for leaders in the Washington area. Duncan officially assumes the position Sept 18.
Duncan served as Montgomery County executive for three terms, from 1994 to 2006. He recently lost his campaign for the democratic candidate for county executive.
“We are truly excited to welcome Doug to LGW,” says Mary Abbajay, LGW’s board chair. “Doug brings a rich history of mobilizing change in our region’s communities, which is exactly what LGW’s mission has supported for nearly 30 years.”
Duncan served an unprecedented three terms as Montgomery County executive for 12 years as the top elected official in Maryland’s largest jurisdiction.
“I am honored to serve as LGW’s new president and look forward to connecting with our members and communities in a new way,” says Doug. “I believe that civic service is not limited to elected officials. All of us have a social responsibility and LGW continues to prepare our region’s leaders for this important call-to-action. I am excited to lead that charge.”
Prior to joining LGW, Mr. Duncan worked as vice president for administrative affairs at the University of Maryland College Park. He served as the University’s liaison with local community and neighborhood associations, as well as city, state and county officials.
