Donation Drive for School Supplies Will Benefit Local Youth

The start of school year is approaching and organizations across the county are working to make sure that students are prepared.  To ensure that every child has a backpack full of necessary school supplies, county leaders are asking the community to donate school materials and backpacks.

School supplies will be accepted at donation sites until Aug. 31 at noon. The back-pack distribution will take place on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m. under the Pavilion of the Silver Spring Center located One Veterans Plaza in Silver Spring.

Supplies needed includes: wide-ruled paper; pens; pencils; sharpeners; glue sticks; colored pencils; folders; rulers; highlighters; and three-ring binders. Personal items needed includes hand sanitizer and tissues.

The event will include entertainment by local musicians, dancers, poets and special presentations. There will also be information and other items of interest by sponsoring organizations.
