DLC Staffers to Card All Customers at County’s 27 Retail Stores (VIDEO)
Beginning on July 1st, all customers shopping at the liquor control department’s 27 retail stores in Montgomery County will be carded.
That’s the word from DLC Director Robert Dorfman, who said there will be few exceptions to the new policy.
Up until now, customers at the county’s stores were only carded if they appeared younger than age 35. The new policy requires everyone to provide identification when buying beer, wine or liquor at the county’s retail stores.
“There’s going to be kind of a learning curve when it goes into effect on July 1st,” Dorfman said.
Staffers are preparing to educate DLC customers about the new policy now.
“We are going to put information out in the stores and on the counters with signs to let people know that it’s coming and the rationale for it,” Dorfman said.
According to Dorfman, the DLC is training its staff to card everyone no matter what their age.
“Again, it’s to protect our employees and to protect our customers,” Dorfman explained, noting he has already received complaints from some DLC customers and he’s prepared for more.
