Dispose of Drugs Safely Sept. 18 at Rockville Police Station

Residents have a safe, free and anonymous opportunity to dispose of unwanted prescription drugs on Saturday, Sept. 18.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Rockville City Police Department will hold a special Drug Take Back event as part of Rockville’s Goes Purple campaign to raise awareness for opioid addiction.

Residents may drive up and drop off the medications without even getting out of their car.  Officers will be outside in the parking lot to receive the medications. The Rockville Police Station is located at 2 W. Montgomery Ave.

Prescription and over the counter drugs are accepted. However, illicit drugs, liquids, needles, sharps or syringes cannot be accepted.

The collected medications will be destroyed by the Drug Enforcement Agency.

The next DEA National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is scheduled for Oct. 23.  There are numerous sites in the county for disposing of prescription drugs year-round. Visit this DEA webpage to locate a site.
