Detectives Investigate Drowning in Potomac Near Great Falls

Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department’s Major Crimes Division are investigating a drowning that occurred in the Potomac River around 6:10 p.m. on August 16.

The victim, identified by police as Abdul Qadir, age 28, of Riverdale, Maryland was located on August 18 at approximately 11:30 a.m. and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to police, the preliminary investigation revealed that the victim waded into the water, slipped and was swept under the water by the strong current and undertow. Police and fire rescue units were called at that point. Police and fire rescue units searched for the missing man two days before he was found on August 18 by a kayaker.
