Montgomery County police have released a surveillance image from a would-be bank robbery May 3 in Colesville in hopes the public can help identify the culprit, police said.

About 11:55 a.m. Thursday, May 3, a man entered the BB&T Bank at 13350 New Hampshire Ave. and displayed a note demanding money from the teller, police said.

The investigation by Wheaton police district detectives revealed that the teller immediately called 911, which caused the suspect to flee from the bank without obtaining any money, police said.

Anyone with information about the man or the bank robbery is asked to call the Montgomery County Police Department – Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5100.

To be eligible for a reward, tipsters may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477).  Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to an arrest or indictment. Tipsters will remain anonymous.
