Despite Coronavirus Crisis, Montgomery County Golf Courses are Packed

If you’re driving by a golf course expecting to see an empty field, you’re in for a surprise.

While most businesses are shut down or severely cutting back, local golf courses are surprisingly bustling.

Montgomery County Revenue Authority, which owns and operates the nine Montgomery County Golf (MCG) courses, experienced booming business on Thursday when temperatures reached the 70’s and expects even bigger business on Friday when temperatures could hit the 80 degree mark.

All nine courses are taking extra precautions amid fears over coronavirus. They include signs that encourage social distancing, credit card only purchases, no food and beverage service available, wiping off golf carts, frequent sanitizing of door knobs, no rakes in bunkers and no water coolers on the courses. MCG will be announcing more measures on Friday.

If you are hoping to book a tee time for Friday, good luck. MyMCMedia called several of the nine courses. Most are booked solid.

These are the nine MCG courses:

  • Falls Road Golf Course in Potomac
  • Hampshire Greens Golf Course in Ashton
  • Laytonsville Golf Course in Laytonsville
  • Little Bennett Golf Course in Clarksburg
  • Needwood Golf Course in in Derwood
  • Northwest Golf Course in Silver Spring
  • Poolesville Golf Course in Poolesville
  • Rattlewood Golf Course in Mt. Airy
  • Sligo Creek Golf Course in Silver Spring
