Design for Life Legislation

photo Ike LeggettMontgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett is scheduled to sign “Design for Life” legislation on Dec. 2 to encourage accessibility features in housing for seniors and those with disabilities.

Leggett will be joined by County Councilmember George Leventhal and community advocates for the signing into law of this legislation, approved by the County Council, that will provide tax credits for builders and homeowners for the inclusion or building of accessibility features into new and existing residential housing to improve mobility for seniors and those with disabilities.

These features include no-step entrances; wider interior doorways; grab bars around toilets, tubs, and showers; lever handles on doors; switches and outlets at wheelchair-accessible levels; and other universal design features.
