Delay Leaf Raking

In anticipation of potentially heavy rains and high winds associated with any effects of Hurricane Sandy, Gaithersburg’s Public Works Department is urging residents to either suspend or modify leaf raking activities this weekend and into early next week.

If it is possible to delay leaf raking until after the effects of the storm have passed, that would be preferred.  If you are raking leaves, please do not rake them into gutters and streets.  Rake them into grassy areas behind the curb line to allow rain water to flow into catch basins.  This will help prevent catch basins from getting clogged during the storm, and will also help prevent street flooding.  If you already have leaves raked in the street and/or gutter and can move them onto grassy areas it would be appreciated.

The city is collecting leaves now through the last week in December.  Pick up is generally made every 5 to 7 days, usually on regular recycling days, which vary from neighborhood to neighborhood.
