Delaney Invites Residents to Discuss Metro Concerns and Suggestions

Rep. John Delaney (MD-6) is drafting legislation to improve the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s (WMATA) and asking residents to share their feedback and suggestions, according to a news release.

“Making Metro safer and more reliable has been a huge topic of discussion from the time I’ve taken office, but concerns have only increased following a number of accident in recent years,” Congressman Delaney said in a statement. “Metro needs big changes and we’re drafting legislation to increase funding and put Metro on the right track to better service as we work on this issue.”

Last year, Delaney introduced legislation to reform how Metro is governed. The legislation would require that federal appointees to Metro’s board be certified experts in transportation, management, finance or safety.

“The WMATA Management Reform Act only dealt with one piece of the puzzle –ensuring that experts in safety, transportation, management or finance were appointed to Metro’s Board,” said Delaney’s spokesman Will McDonald. “Congressman Delaney’s new proposal will be more comprehensive.”

McDonald stated there is no deadline for people to send in their responses.
