Dave Anderson is running to represent Maryland’s 8th Congressional District.
“The dysfunction in Washington isn’t working for families in Maryland,” said Anderson in a news release. “We need a new way forward, a new approach to legislating that brings together the best of all ideas and creates practical solutions to the crucial issues of today. I believe I can bring that new approach to Washington.”
A professor, public intellectual, and advocate for over 25 years, Anderson has dedicated his life to studying, writing about, and promoting policy solutions that address the crucial issues facing Maryland and the United States, especially for young and middle class families. As a Senior Vice President at The Washington Center, Anderson has spent the last eleven years working in state capitals across the United States to secure funding for scholarship programs serving college students. Anderson has also taught at six universities, including The George Washington University. Dave is the editor of Leveraging: A Political, Economic, and Societal Framework; he also authored Youth04: Young Voters, the Internet, and Political Power and coedited The Civic Web. He has also written numerous articles and published over 50 op-eds for newspapers including The Baltimore Sun, The Gazette, The Hill, and Roll Call.
Anderson lives in Potomac with his wife, Adrienne. They have two children, Simon and Eden.
According to a news release, the centerpiece of his candidacy is his approach to domestic family policy that would provide young, middle class families with the option of either paid parental leave plus childcare support or paid parental leave plus a tax credit for a stay at home parent—for all families, including LGBT families.
“As a member of Congress I will fight for a new agenda for American middle class families. I am very excited about this race. I look forward to hearing from the voters and engaging in lively debate with the other candidates,” said Anderson.
