Darnestown Heritage Park Opens (Photos)

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) Montgomery Parks opened Darnestown Heritage Park, the newest park to its system of 417 parks on Nov. 10.

Montgomery County Council members Phil Andrews, Craig Rice and County Executive Ike Leggett attended the weekend ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Other special guests included: Darnestown Civic Association leaders Lisa Patterson and Chris Collins; M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks Director Mary Bradford and M-NCPPC Montgomery Parks Senior History Advisor Jamie Kuhns.

The park, situated on a .6 acre parcel along Route 28, celebrates the history of the town through educational panels and a large pergola featuring interpretive sculptures by artist Cheryl Foster of historic figures.

The park features plenty of benches and seating areas as well as plaza space to accommodate community gatherings and lunch outings.
