John McCarthy, State’s Attorney for Montgomery County, announced today (June 9), that Daniel Mendoza, 52, of Rockville, was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

According to a statement from the state’s attorney office, Mendoza was found guilty of one count of solicitation to commit first degree murder in February of this year.

“Today’s sentence reflects the gravity of this crime. A murder for hire scheme is a very serious offense,” said McCarthy. “Through excellent police work and vigorous prosecution the Bench saw fit to sentence Mr. Mendoza to 30 years in prison.”

The sentencing guidelines are four to nine years, however the ruling from the judge found that this guideline fell short of what was appropriate for this case. The Honorable Terrence J. McGann, in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County,  presided over the sentencing.

The sentencing stems from events that occurred on March 5th and 6th of 2012.
