On June 20 at about 3:16 p.m., officers responded to the 2500 block of Ennalls Avenue in Wheaton for a report of a victim who had just been stabbed.

According to police, the victim was standing next to his motorcycle in the 2300 block of Ennalls Avenue, attempting to put his helmet on, when he was allegedly stabbed in the neck by Fredi Mazariegos, 26 of D.C.

Officers found the victim bleeding profusely from the neck and immediately began life-saving measures to control the severe bleeding, according to a news release from police. Shortly after officers arrived to the scene, the Emergency Communications Center (9-1-1) received a call from a witness stating that he was chasing a man in the area of Grandview Avenue, police said. A second witness called 9-1-1 to say that he allegedly saw the suspect with a knife after the stabbing and was chasing him.

Based on the suspect description provided by these two witnesses, officers found Mazariegos in the 11500 block of Grandview Avenue and arrested him. Mazariegos has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, and first-degree assault. Mazariegos is being held without bond.

The victim of the stabbing was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
