D.C. Man Arrested in Connection With Coin Store Burglary
A Washington, D.C., man has been charged with the Aug. 30 burglary of a Silver Spring coin store, a Montgomery County police statement said.
Tony Arrington, 49, is being held at the Montgomery County Detention Center in lieu of $1,000 bail, according to online court records.
The burglar took about $6,500 worth of coins and caused about $2,500 worth of damage to the business’ front door and a display case, police said.
Arrington’s arrest followed the release of surveillance video and photographs of the burglary. Police said a tip from the public led to the identification of Arrington.
A warrant was issued for Arrington’s arrest.
On Nov. 21, Arrington was arrested in Washington on unrelated criminal charges, police said. On Nov. 26, he was extradited to Montgomery County on the strength of the Montgomery County criminal warrant.
Arrington has been charged with:
● Second-degree burglary, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison;
● Fourth-degree burglary, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison;
● Malicious destruction of property, a misdemeanor that carries a maximum penalty of 60 days in jail; and
● Theft, a felony that carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
