Take Me Out to the Ballgame: D.C. Allows 5,000 Fans at Nats Games

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and the D.C. Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency approved a waiver request by the Washington Nationals baseball team so that 5,000 masked fans can attend home games.

In a March 15 letter to the Washington Nationals, D.C. officials approved a maximum of 5,000 fans per game, but added they “hope that we will be able to expand the stadium’s capacity in the near future.”

The approval came with a few conditions aimed at avoiding the spread of COVID-19. Nats officials must control the stadium’s entrances and exits to avoid crowding. They also must make sure fans maintain social distancing when purchasing food and beverages or using the restrooms.

Opening day is April 1 when the Nats will face the New York Mets.

The Washington Nationals, with approval from the Government of the District of Columbia and @MLB, will welcome fans back to Nationals Park on Opening Day.
