Cultural Pageant Brings Awareness to Autism (Photo)

Little Malaika International Boys and Girls Leadership and Cultural Pageant’s first public speaking training with Cakelove’s Warren Brown.

To bring awareness to autism in Africa, the UNESCO Club Racines Heritage Foundation in partnership with Autism Community of Africa is hosting a Little Malaika International Boys & Girls Leadership Cultural Pageant in Chevy Chase on May 25.

Each of the contestants from ages 7 to 12 years old will represent a culture from the Caribbean to Asia. They will be judged on how they personally introduce themselves, their talent and their traditional garb.

This year’s event includes children from the Philippines, France, Nigeria, Cameroon, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Jamaica, Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago.

H.E. Jacinth Henry-Martin—the ambassador of St. Kitts & Nevis—will be a guest judge during the event and says she is honored to support the organization mission.

“I applaud and support the initiative of the organizers of the Little Malaika International Cultural Pageant as they seek to improve the lives of African children affected by autism, and in the process, to empower young minds for leadership through creativity and pageantry,” Ambassador Henry-Martin said.

The two winners will be crowned Princess and Prince Malaika and provided with two tickets for each winner to travel on Arik Air to any of its west and central Africa destinations via Lagos.
