Crime in Rockville Continues to Decline

The Rockville Police Department reported a decrease in crime for 2015. Overall crime in the City decreased by 4.2 percent last year, which continues an 11 year period of decline in crime, according to a news release.

The Rockville City Police Department published a report using data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI) reporting program. Crimes are categorized as Part I or Part II. Part I crimes are labeled as crimes against a person (murder, rape, robbery, assault) or crimes against property which include burglary, larceny, theft and arson.

Part II crimes are defined as simple assault, violation of a curfew, loitering, embezzlement, forgery and counterfeiting, disorderly conduct, driving under the influence, drug and alcohol offenses, fraud, gambling, vandalism, and weapons offenses.

Between 2014 and 2015, the City saw a two percent decrease in reports of Part I offenses and Part II crime decreased by 6.1 percent. The City had a decrease in robberies, burglaries and auto thefts however, the number of reported rapes increased from 10 to 23.
