Crane Operation in Bethesda Closes Lanes along Old Georgetown Road

crane6UPDATED Two right lanes of Old Georgetown Road were closed today between Maryland 355 and Commerce Lane for a crane operation at a construction site.

The operation, which included a large crane moving a second crane into place, began around 4 a.m. on Feb. 7 at 7535 Old Georgetown Road.

According to the State Highway Administration, Schuster Construction was permitted to close all through lanes on Old Georgetown Road, though they planned to convert the left-most parking lane into a through travel lane during the crane operation.

Montgomery County traffic enforcement officers are scheduled to be in the area to help guide motorists through the work zone. The company’s contractor used arrow panels, construction barrels, cones and a flagging operation to direct motorists safely around the crane operation.

Sidewalks directly beneath the work zone on Old Georgetown Road were expected to be closed during the crane operation.

Pedestrians were directed to safe crossings and sidewalks on the opposite side of Old Georgetown Road, according to an SHA news release that previewed the operation.

There is always a ton of traffic due to construction, at least in my area of town. Always though, there are some very clear safety guidelines when the city is doing construction. I would like to learn more about a way to improve response time to traffic issues.
