COVID-19 Montgomery Cases Surpass 15,500, Maryland Cases Top 71,000

Montgomery County COVID-19 Statistics

Thursday morning the Maryland Department of Health reported 15,503 cases of COVID-19 in Montgomery County, which is an increase of 103 from the 15,400 cases reported Wednesday.

716 county residents have died from COVID-19 since the first case in March. This is an increase of two since Wednesday.

More Montgomery County residents have died due to COVID-19 than any other jurisdiction in the state. Prince George’s has lost 677 residents, the second-highest number in the state.

The positivity rate of 5.2% reported Thursday is the fifth-highest in the state, behind Baltimore City (5.32%), Charles (5.45%), Queen Anne’s (6.62%), and Prince George’s (7.41%). Montgomery County’s positivity rate has remained below 6% for the eighth straight day.

Maryland COVID-19 Statistics

As of Thursday morning, there have been 71,447 confirmed cases throughout the state. That is an increase of 586 in the last 24 hours. COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 3,160 Marylanders, 11 since Wednesday.

Currently, 406 Marylanders are hospitalized with COVID-19, eight more than Wednesday. Of those patients, 139 are in intensive care, which is three more than Wednesday. This is the 17th-day hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Maryland remained below 500.

The state department of health reported a testing positivity rate of 4.53% Thursday. This is a decrease of 0.08% from Wednesday’s rate of 4.61%. For the 14th straight day, the rate remained below 5%.

Statewide, a total of 20,515 cases and 1,276 deaths involve the state’s African American community.
