County’s 911 System Experiences Overnight Outage July 9
UPDATED Montgomery County’s emergency 911 system experienced an outage that lasted about two hours Sunday night into early Monday morning.
County Spokerperson Patrick Lacefield told Bethesda Beat that the outage was caused by a malfunctioning air conditioner and electrical power failures.
According to police, residents who called 911 and the non-emergency 301.279.8000 phone lines, received a busy signal between 11:10 p.m. and 1:09 a.m. Police said that alternative methods to report emergencies were put in place.
AlertMontgomery sent an email to residents informing them to contact their local police stations if they experience an emergency. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue along with the police department also kept residents updated through social media.
Police said that both emergency and non-emergency lines are now functional, but there is a possibility that a caller may experience a busy signal while a corrective action is being implemented .
Police have provided the following contacts for residents, in case a caller hears a busy signal in the event of an emergency:
• Call 3-1-1 or 240.777.0311. Police officers and Fire and Rescue personnel are on duty at the MC311 call center to assist with any emergency calls.
• Or call the closest local fire station or police district station.
Public Safety officials urge all residents and business owners to determine now which Fire and Rescue Station and Police District station are closest in the event of an emergency.
