County’s 5th Annual Greenfest Planned for Sunday in Wheaton

Montgomery County’s fifth annual GreenFest will take place on April 28 at Broadside Gardens in Wheaton. This year’s event includes a full day of family activities and learning opportunities from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Brookside Gardens is located at 1800 Glenallan Avenue. Guests are advised to utilize the free parking and shuttle service that will be available at the Glenmont Metro Station during event hours.

GreenFest this year will combine with Brookside Gardens’ annual Earth Day celebration, bringing two festivities to one site. GreenFest features fun for the whole family including entertainment, exhibitors, live music and dance performances, a native plant sale, tree climbing, an electric vehicle display, food trucks and interactive workshops. It provides an opportunity to share ideas and learn about local environmental initiatives.

The new location will enable GreenFest participants to enjoy Brookside Gardens, the award-winning, 50-acre display of gardens and nature situated within Wheaton Regional Park. Brookside Gardens does not allow pets, although service animals are welcome. GreenFest visitors also will have the opportunity to enjoy the gardens and walking trails at Brookside.

A coalition of partners plans GreenFest; including the Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection; Montgomery Parks; the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission; the cities of Gaithersburg, Takoma Park and Rockville; the University of Maryland Extension; Montgomery County Public Schools; and local community green group Bethesda Green, One Montgomery Green and Poolesville Green.
