County to Hold Second Open Data Town Hall in Germantown
The County is looking to local residents for advice on what data they’d like to see available at their fingertips.
After the first Open Data Town Hall in December, officials decided to expand the program, hosting the second event at the Upcounty Regional Services Center in Germantown on Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.
“The Open Data Town Hall is an an opportunity for upcounty residents to give us their priorities on what data the county should make readily available,” said Montgomery County Chief Innovation Officer Dan Hoffman. “What apps do they want? What maps do they want? These are the questions we’d like to answer.”
This event will be held in a similar format to event late last year and will give residents the opportunity to brainstorm with officials and write down the information they believe is missing from County websites.
The county is currently going through more than 800 systems, applications and interfaces to mine and prepare data for new open data projects to help the government become more transparent.
The next step in the open data process involves pulling feedback from residents online.
“For next steps we’re launching a social media outreach campaign,” Hoffman said.”Beyond that we’re going to have a draft inventory in early February that we will begin prioritizing. All the input from the social media campaign and town halls will go into that process.”
