County Temporarily Unable to Issue Birth Certificates

Birth certificate section of County Vital Records’ office temporarily closed

Montgomery County’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) are temporarily not able to provide Maryland birth certificate services in the Vital Records’ office due to a staffing issue.

Requests for Maryland birth certificates may be made either online or in person at health departments throughout the State.

The County is advising residents seeking Maryland birth certificates to make an online request at www.vsa.maryland.gov or visit a health department office in neighboring counties such as Frederick, Howard and Prince George’s.

Montgomery County began issuing birth certificates in June of 2016 at the Dennis Avenue Health Center in Silver Spring. Prior to that, residents could obtain copies of death certificates, but not birth certificates through the county.

According to HHS spokesperson Mary Anderson, the County is working to provide birth certificate services as soon as possible.
