County Officials Break Ground for New Second District Police Station (VIDEO & PHOTOS)

Montgomery County Police officers in Bethesda will have a new police station to call home next year. County officials and MCPD officers broke ground for the new 2nd District Police station on Wednesday to be constructed at 4823 Rugby Avenue in Bethesda.

When the building is complete, the facility will be four stories and 38,000 square feet. The project is part of a public-private partnership between the County and Bethesda-based real estate firm StonebridgeCarras. In exchange for developing the site, StonebridgeCarras will receive the land and building where the current police station stands at 7359 Wisconsin Avenue. The County is paying $2,010,076 for the construction of the new station, a bargain price that would easily be more without the land deal.

Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett, Council President Nancy Floreen, Police Chief Tom Manger and more were on hand to break ground for the new site. Construction for the new station is set to begin on March 15 and last one year. You can take a look at the full news conference below.
