County Libraries Win 3 Awards

Montgomery County Public Libraries received three National Association of Counties awards for outstanding programs in 2021.

According to a recent Montgomery County press release, the award-winning programs include:

  • Virtual Programming at MCPL- designed programming to promote literacy, strengthen workforce development and provide opportunities for community engagement.
  • Holds to Go!- A program to promote contactless and free check-outs of physical library materials during the pandemic.
  • Books and Food Sites- A partnership with Manna Food Center and Montgomery County Public Schools to distribute books to children at food giveaway sites.

County Executive Marc Elrich expressed his gratitude towards MCPL for the efforts to help the community and the reopening of all county libraries.

“Montgomery County Public Libraries receiving three NACo Achievement Awards is a testament to the innovative and creative ways they have continued to provide services to our Montgomery County residents throughout the COVID-19 pandemic,” Elrich said.

The annual Achievement Award Program highlights efforts from local jurisdictions that promote responsible, accessible and effective county government initiatives. MCPL aims to offer free and equal access to resources that connect residents of the county to ideas and information that will enhance their lives.

“MCPL is proud to be recognized for the work we do every day and especially the work that enabled us to continue providing services and resources to residents during the pandemic,” said MCPL Director Anita Vassallo . “We are always trying to find effective models to provide next-level services and resources to the community and programming that excites and informs. These awards are an honor and a responsibility, and they inspire us to continue to find ways to enrich the lives of our County’s residents.”
