County Launches #IamBlackandIBreastfeed Campaign

A new campaign to encourage black women to breastfeed was launched by the African American Health Program, part of Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services.

The project is part of year-long effort to reach black women in the county, and educate the public about the benefits of breastfeeding.

According to a county’s press release, studies suggest that black women breastfeed at a lower rate in comparison to other ethic groups.

“Breastfeeding is one of the greatest gifts a mother can give to her child and it benefits families too,” said Heather Ross, Program Manager at African American Health Program.

Residents can follow the  campaign on the agency’s Youtube, Facebook, and Twitter channels.

Ross said in addition to protect qualities for both moms and babies, breastfeeding saves time and money while promoting boding and reducing stress.
