County Executive Leggett Returns Reimbursement Check Baltimore Sent for Riot Aid

County Executive Ike LeggettUPDATED Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett has returned a $296,311.38 check to the Montgomery County Police Department from the City of Baltimore.

The check was sent by Baltimore city leaders last month as reimbursement for Montgomery County Police Department’s aid during the riots in April of 2015.

In a letter dated Aug. 3, Leggett thanks Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake for the check, and explains why he is sending it back.

“While we certainly appreciate the gesture, Montgomery County, like Baltimore City, is part of the great state of Maryland, and we accepted the call for assistance with the belief that the City would do the same for us in a time of need. Consequently, we are returning the check.”

Leggett also said he hopes the Baltimore Police Department and Montgomery County Police Department will continue to work and train together for the benefit of both communities.

“I look forward to this continued cooperative relationship in the spirit of public safety,” said Leggett.
