County Councilmember Rice Concerned Minimum Wage Increase Will Have a Negative Impact on Minorities (VIDEO)
In a 5-4 vote, the Montgomery County Council voted to approve Bill 12-16 on Tuesday which will gradually increase the County minimum wage for most businesses to $15 per hour by 2020.
Councilmember Marc Elrich is the lead sponsor of the bill and Councilmembers George Leventhal, Tom Hucker, Nancy Navarro and Hans Riemer are co-sponsors. After approving five amendments to the bill, these five councilmembers voted to approve the amended bill.
Councilmembers Sidney Katz, Nancy Floreen, Craig Rice, and County Council President Roger Berliner voted no on the bill after a proposal to conduct a study on the impact of increasing the minimum wage was defeated 5-4.
