Montgomery County Councilmember-elect Sidney Katz will be sworn in on Dec. 1. His first County Council meeting is scheduled for Dec. 2.

Gaithersburg Mayor Sidney Katz is spending a lot of time in Rockville these days, especially at the Montgomery County Council office building at 100 Maryland Avenue.

Inside the Council building he’s been attending Montgomery County Council meetings, reviewing Council packets and getting to know the Council staff as he prepares to transition from his current position as the Mayor of Gaithersburg to his new role as the county’s District 3 Councilmember.

Although he will not be sworn in until December 1st, Katz, who does not face a challenger in the Nov. 4 general election, is moving ahead with some staff decisions beginning with his chief-of-staff.

Mayor Katz tells MyMCMedia that he plans to hire Lisa Mandel-Trupp, who has already served in that role for 16 years working for long-serving District 3 Councilmember Phil Andrews.  In fact, Mandel-Trupp has worked for Andrews since day one.

“She is a person – I know – knows the 3rd district,” said Katz, who commended Mandel-Trupp’s wealth of knowledge for how the Montgomery County Council works. Katz said Andrews also recommended Mandel-Trupp for the job.

“I’m looking forward to working with Councilmember-elect Katz,” said Mandel-Trupp, who added that she’s been impressed with his questions and dedication.

When asked if she is going to miss working for her current boss, Councilmember Andrews, Mandel-Trupp doesn’t hesitate.

“Absolutely! It’s been a really great four terms. He’s served our county well.”
