County Council Recognizes Montgomery College’s 70th Anniversary (VIDEO)
The 70th anniversary of Montgomery College (MC) was recognized by the Montgomery County Council today as College President DeRionne Pollard and members of the faculty and staff joined the tribute.
County Councilmembers Nancy Navarro and Craig Rice led the ceremonies.
“[The College] has helped to change our community, our society, our world,” said Rice.
MC opened in September 1946 as Montgomery Junior College, with classes first held at Bethesda Chevy-Chase High School. The original student body had 186 students.
Today, MC serves more than 56,000 students, both credit and non-credit, on three campuses in Rockville, Germantown and Takoma Park.
“We know for a fact that this county is enriched by having us here,” said Pollard. “I want to thank the students who give us purpose everyday.”
“This college is one of our crown jewels,” said Navarro. “Congratulations to all.”
