County Council Holds Five Budget Hearings Next Week

The Montgomery County Council will hold five public hearings spread from April 8-10 10 on the County’s Fiscal Year 2020 Operating Budget. More than 150 people are expected to express views about budget priorities and the general structure of the budget.

Residents also can offer comments at the public hearings about proposed amendments to the FY20-25 County Capital Improvements Program.

The public hearings will be held at 1:30 and 7 p.m. on Monday, April 8; at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9; and at 1:30 and 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 10. All hearings will be held in the Third Floor Hearing Room of the Council Office Building at 100 Maryland Avenue in Rockville.

The number of speaker spots available for the week is limited. To register to speak, residents can sign up online at http://tinyurl.com/z9982v8 or by calling 240-777-7803.

For residents who speak a language other than English, special arrangements for interpretation services can be made for either those testifying or those attending. Arrangements must be made 72 hours in advance by calling 240-777-7926.

The hearings will be televised live by County Cable Montgomery. Residents can view CCM on Channels 996 (high definition) and 6 (standard definition) on Comcast, Channels 1056 (HD) and 6 (SD) on RCN and Channel 30 on Verizon.

The hearings also will be available via streaming on the Council’s web site at http://tinyurl.com/z9982v8 and on the Council’s Facebook page.

County Executive Marc Elrich presented his recommended budget to the Council on March 15. Over the next two months, the Council and its six committees will analyze the recommendations and will adopt the FY20 budget in late May. The budget adopted by the Council will take effect on July 1.
