County Council Debuts Show On Radio America (Video)

County Councilmember Nancy Navarro was a guest for the debut of “Sintonía con el Concejo del Condado de Montgomery” (Tuned In with the Montgomery County Council), a new show on Radio America.

In this MyMCMedia Extra, Navarro talks about the importance of the radio show in communicating County Council business to the community.

The Montgomery County Council and Radio America (WACA 1540 AM) have entered into a community partnership that will provide the Latino community with key information on issues and programs and will provide a forum for residents to express views and ask questions of Councilmembers. The partnership will include a 30-minute weekly show at 2 p.m. each Friday.

The show will debut today, with host Julie Ríos Little talking with special guests County Councilmember Nancy Navarro and Daniel Parra of the Montgomery County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Councilmember Navarro has strongly supported programs that will help the Council better communicate with residents whose first language is not English.RadioAmericaDebutShowDanielParraJulieRiosNancyNavarroAlexandriaArata 4-4-14

Each week, the show will feature guests talking about important issues before the Council and also will provide information about programs offered by the County to help residents and businesses. A regular focus of the show will be on small business owners telling their stories of success.

“In my capacity as chair of the Council’s Government Operations and Fiscal Policy Committee, three years ago I proposed the creation of initiatives that would enhance the ability of the Council as an institution to communicate with its constituents,” said Councilmember Navarro.

“I am absolutely ecstatic that the Council has now decided to implement my proposal. I am a firm believer in establishing institutional structures that respond to the on-going changes in our County. This radio show is just a small step in ensuring that all Councilmembers have an opportunity to engage with the Latino community on our legislative, land use and budgetary decisions. The Latino community will undoubtedly benefit from this program and from any other future Council initiative that aims to engage and mobilize this growing segment of our County.”

The show will provide an opportunity for listeners to call in and express opinions and ask questions of guests.
