County Celebrates Opening of Travilah Fire Station (Video)
After an event complete with bagpipes and a ceremonial ribbon cutting, the Travilah Fire Station in Rockville is now officially open.
“To the citizens and residents of this area, you’ve waited long enough,” said Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett. “I think what we’ve delivered is a first class fire rescue station.”
The station has been functional since February and fire officials have run more than 850 calls in the past two months.
“The importance of this fire station extends far beyond the structure,” said Montgomery County Fire Chief Steve Lohr. “It’s an important and vital link to this community.”
The Travilah Fire Station #32, is located in one of the fastest growing areas in the County and an area that is expected to grow significantly in the next few years.
“There’s going to be a lot of new residential growth,” said Montgomery County Councilmember George Leventhal. “There have been a lot of new homes built and this will keep those homes safe and also the new communities that are being built in the great Seneca Science Corridor, so it’s a very important investment in keeping our communities safe.”
The building is expected to achieve a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) silver rating due to its many environmentally-sensitive design elements.
Travilah is one of five new fire stations constructed in the County in the past eight years.
