County Celebrates African Heritage Month
Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett will kick off African Heritage Month on Monday, September 8 at a special celebration from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Silver Spring Civic Building at Veterans Plaza, One Veterans Place.
Montgomery County was the first in the nation to proclaim the month of September as African Heritage Month.
The annual event will include a reception hosted by members of Montgomery County’s African Affairs Advisory Group and will feature musical entertainment and African cuisine. Leggett will present a proclamation in honor of African Heritage Month.
On Saturday, September 27 from 4 to 9 p.m. a Panafest will be held in downtown Silver Spring at Veteran’s Plaza that will include arts and crafts exhibits, a taste of exotic African cuisine and live cultural performances by groups representative of various African countries.
