County Cable Montgomery Receives Emmy Nomination for Hispanic Heritage 2018 Video
The first Latina woman in the history of Montgomery County to be part of the Council, and current president, Nancy Navarro, is celebrating the Emmy Award nomination for the video “Hispanics: One endless voice to enhance our traditions” which highlights the contributions of the Latino community through art, culture, music and cuisine.
For five years, as part of the Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, the Council President has led a special commemorative ceremony that takes place in the Montgomery Council building and aims to enhance the contributions of Hispanics to the county, the region and the country. As part of this ceremony, a video is presented to the public in order to share the growth, contributions and strength of the Latino/Hispanic community.
In 2018, under the production of two-time Emmy winner and current bilingual communications specialist of the Council, Lilian Mass, along with cameraman and editor José Martín Ruíz, gave life to this video that tells the story of the Hispanic immigrant community since its inception in the United States, with an emphasis on the richness of its culture.
The Emmy-nominated video also highlights interesting facts about Latino growth in the DC metropolitan area, which has more than 1.5 million Hispanics including more than 207,000 in Montgomery County alone. And that number grew by more than 800% from 1980 to 2017.
Navarro shared on her Facebook page that she feels “proud to learn that last year’s special feature video “Hispanic Heritage Month 2018” has been nominated in the category “Best Program or Historical Segment: Culture.” She added that she’s grateful to her office, her communications team, and the video participants for investing their time and expertise in helping her realize her vision.
Emmy winners will be announced at the Emmy Award Gala to be held at the Bethesda North Marriott on June 22.
