County Board Vacancies

County Executive Isiah Leggett is committed to representation on all of the County’s boards, committees, and commissions that is reflective of, and responsive to, our County’s residents. Public participation contributes to the work of County government and provides an important service to the community when a variety of issues, concerns, and viewpoints are presented. Currently, there is a valuable opportunity to serve on the following:

• Rustic Roads Advisory Committee

Members of County boards, committees and commissions may not serve on more than one such group at a time. Members of these boards are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Leggett’s appointments are subject to confirmation by the County Council. Applications of individuals selected for appointment are made public as part of the confirmation process.

Leggett Seeks Applicants for Firearm Safety Committee

County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill three vacancies on the Firearm Safety Committee. Members should be knowledgeable by training and experience in the safe and sportsmanlike use of weapons. One incumbent is eligible to apply for reappointment.

The seven-member committee issues indoor and outdoor target, trap, skeet and range shooting approval certificates which specify the time and manner of shooting and the type of gun and ammunition which can be used on the range.

Members serve three-year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. The Committee currently meets on an as-needed basis at the various shooting ranges in the County and at the Public Service Training Academy in Rockville.

Leggett Seeks Applicants for Forest Conservation Advisory Committee

County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill six public member vacancies on the Forest Conservation Advisory Committee. The public members should include landscape architects, arborists and urban foresters, horticulturists and representatives from the nursery industry, persons directly engaged in agriculture, persons directly involved in the building industry, members of citizens groups, members of environmental and conservation organizations, representatives of public utility companies and persons owning forest land of at least two acres.

The Committee is composed of 22 voting members, which includes 16 public members and representatives of the Departments of Economic Development, Environmental Protection, Permitting Services, and Transportation, and representatives of the County Planning Board and the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission.

The Committee must advise the Executive, Council, Planning Board, and other relevant agencies on forestry policy issues; propose proactive forestry policies, laws and guidelines, and submit an annual report on the Committee’s functions, activities, accomplishments, plans and objectives. The Committee must also recommend a comprehensive approach to urban forestry; advise on a tree inventory; review and comment on policies and programs related to forestry; promote and seek funding for a sustained forestry program; promote and foster a strong sense of community through urban forestry; communicate with other boards, agencies, and community residents about forestry issues; promote volunteerism; and act as a general information resource.

Members serve three year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Meetings are held at the call of the Chair but not less than nine times per year in the evenings in Rockville.

Leggett Seeks Applicants for Advisory Board for the Montgomery Cares Program

County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill one vacancy on the Advisory Board for the Montgomery Cares Program for an individual who has knowledge of and experience with issues relating to health care for uninsured individuals.

Members of the Advisory Board for the Montgomery Cares Program are composed of 17 voting members and two ex officio members. Members include, but are not limited to, the County Health Officer, the Chief of the County’s Division of Behavioral Health and Crisis Services, and representatives of the Commission on Health, the County Medical Society, and the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Primary Care Coalition.

The Board’s mission is to guide the development of the Program to ensure steady and measurable growth in the number of uninsured County residents accessing high quality and efficient health care services including primary, specialty, dental and behavioral health care services. The Montgomery Cares Program provides quality primary health care, referrals to discounted outpatient specialty care, and limited prescription medications. The goals of the Program are to provide health care access and to improve health outcomes for low-income, uninsured and ethnically diverse County residents.

Members serve three year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Meetings are held at least 10 times per year on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM in Rockville. Members are required to file a limited public financial disclosure statement within 15 days of Council confirmation and each annual period thereafter.

Leggett Seeks Applicants for Department of Permitting Services Advisory Committee

County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill three vacancies on the Department of Permitting Services Advisory Committee for one active member of a civic organization in the County, one active member of an environmental organization in the County, and one member active in land development or a related profession. The three incumbents are eligible to apply for reappointment.

The Committee is composed of 17 members, including non-voting representatives of the Departments of Environmental Protection, Housing and Community Affairs, Transportation, and representatives of the Fire Chief, the Planning Board, the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission, and each of the County’s five regional service center advisory boards.

The Department of Permitting Services is responsible for ensuring public safety through the enforcement of construction and zoning codes and standards. This is accomplished through engineering plan review and construction inspections related to the administration and enforcement of building, structural, electrical, mechanical, fire-safety, energy conservation, and accessibility codes and standards. In addition, the Department is responsible for enforcement of site plans and of the County’s Zoning Ordinance. The Department of Permitting Services is responsible for the protection of the County’s water resources and the safety of residents through its engineering and inspection functions related to storm water management, sediment control, floodplain management, well-and-septic systems approval, storm drain design, and work in the public right-of-way. The Department also conducts public outreach on these matters. The Committee must advise the Department on performance of its functions and recommend to the Director, the Executive, and the Council any steps necessary to improve performance.

Members serve three-year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. Meetings are held on Tuesday evenings 5-6 times per year from 5:00 PM – 6:30 PM in Rockville.

Leggett Seeks Applicants for Rustic Roads Advisory Committee

County Executive Isiah Leggett is seeking applicants to fill two vacancies on the Rustic Roads Advisory Committee. The vacancies are for an individual who represents a civic association located in the agricultural reserve, and an individual with knowledge of roadway engineering through practical experience and training. The incumbent with knowledge of roadway experience is eligible to apply for reappointment. All members must be Montgomery County residents.

The Rustic Roads Advisory Committee consists of seven voting members. Its duties include promoting public awareness of the Rustic Roads Program; and reviewing and commenting on: the classification of rustic roads, development proposals that affect rustic roads, and executive regulations and policies that may affect the Program.

Members serve three-year terms without compensation, but are eligible for reimbursement for travel and dependent care for meetings attended. The committee meets at least six times per year; usually the fourth Tuesday evening of each month at 7:00 PM in the Executive Office Building in Rockville.
