County Addresses Problems With State’s Vaccine Preregistration Scheduling System
Challenges surrounding a shortage in vaccines in Montgomery County and throughout the state continue to plague county residents.
“We understand that people are eager to get their shots, but there’s just not enough vaccines,” said County Executive Marc Elrich during a virtual media briefing on Thursday.
Based on the latest data, more people have been vaccinated in Montgomery County than anywhere else in the state, according to local leaders. However, confusion regarding the vaccine preregistration process is an ongoing issue.
“Montgomery County continues to have too many residents who are getting notification of the ability to register for a vaccine through the county clinics, and people are still sharing their invitations with other people who are not eligible,” Elrich added during the briefing. He said it is creating a ‘mess.’
The county is currently in Priority Group 1B Tier 1 of the vaccination process, consisting of residents 75 years old and older. Elrich said about a third of people in the current eligible groups have been vaccinated so far.
According to Elrich, Maryland receives about 88,000 doses of the vaccine per week, and Montgomery County gets about 5,000 of those doses each week.
Elrich commented on issues with the state’s vaccine preregistration scheduling system and plans to adjust it. MyMCM tuned in.
