Council’s Health and Human Services Committee to Host Forum on Gun Violence

The Montgomery County Council’s Committee on Health and Human Services is scheduled to host a public forum on “The Impact of Gun Violence on Public Health” tonight at 7 p.m.
The forum will feature Montgomery County Councilmember George Leventhal, Georges Benjamin, executive director of the American Public Health Association, and Rep. John Sarbanes. According to a news release, Benjamin has written and spoken extensively about whether gun violence should be treated as a public health issue.
The forum will focus on:
- How gun violence impacts public health.
- Evidence-based, multi-faceted solutions to gun violence.
- Lessons learned from other public health initiatives.
- Gun violence prevention activities.
“Gun violence clearly is impacting public health in this country to the degree that it is similar to the effects of a viral infection that is out of control,” Councilmember Leventhal said. “If it were a viral infection, we would put together our best medical research minds and work to find an answer. In the case of gun violence, we must put together the best and most influential minds in our communities to find an answer to it,” Leventhal said.
The forum will be held at the County Council Building’s Third Floor Conference room at 7 p.m.

What the heck is “common sense gun laws”
There are over 20,000 laws in America on guns. 500 here in MD alone. What 1 law if missing that if somehow enacted is going to solve crime……spoiler……..NOTHING!!
Instead, crack down on illegal immigration…note…ILLEGAL not, legal immigration….enforce laws already on the books and stick to strong punishments for first time offenders.
