Council Unanimously Passes Resolution About Proposed Exelon Pepco Merger (VIDEO)

The Montgomery County Council unanimously passed a resolution on March 31 that urges the Maryland Public Service Commission to mitigate what officials called serious risks to the public interest by insisting, at a minimum, on commitments by Exelon to hold down costs to ratepayers and to strive for national leadership in clean, renewable, distributed energy and energy efficiency.

The resolution also asks that Exelon (which has announced plans to merge with Pepco) commit to a renewable energy standard in line with top-performing states. The chief sponsor of the resolution was Councilmember Roger Berliner. Councilmembers Marc Elrich, Sidney Katz, Tom Hucker and Hans Riemer were co-sponsors.
