“Our Residents Expect and Deserve Better”

Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett and members of his administration briefed the County Council on March 19 about a new report detailing problems with the construction of the Silver Spring Transit Center.

Following that briefing, the Montgomery County Council released the following statement:

“We are deeply disappointed in the repeated delays and cost overruns that have plagued the construction of the Silver Spring Transit Center. The report we received from the County Executive today, prepared by KCE Structural Engineers, makes clear that there were pervasive problems in the design, construction and inspection of the Transit Center which have resulted in a structure that does not meet the County’s safety and durability requirements.

We call on Parsons Brinckerhoff, the design firm; Foulger-Pratt, the general contractor; The Robert B. Balter Company, the inspector; and the Executive Branch to remedy these errors as quickly as possible and deliver the safe, durable Transit Center we were promised more than two years ago. Our residents expect and deserve better. As part of any solution to this problem, we will investigate how we can ensure that issues like these never occur again.

In the short term, as construction continues, we urge the County Executive to find ways for our residents to easily and safely access the Metro and surrounding area.”
