Council President Craig Rice met with the media on Jan. 27.
Montgomery County Council President Craig Rice met with members of the media on Jan. 27, to discuss key items that will be facing the County Council and its respective committees in the near future.
Some of the hot topics he addressed included zoning and Ten Mile Creek.
“All of the Council members are certainly committed to making sure we protect the environment,” said Rice during the news conference. “That’s why we are undertaking this study. That’s the reason why we paid the Planning Board the additional money to bring in a consultant firm to look at the site to make sure this was not a knee jerk reaction that it was something that was soundly based on information and data and then make a decision on how to move forward.”
Rice also addressed the District 5 vacancy and the need for school funding from the state.
“Our message to the state delegation has always been to help the one that is leading the way,” said Rice.
In addition, he shared some information about a new initiative that he is introducing to work closer with the leaders of nearby jurisdictions.
He also answered questions from local reporters about the District 5 vacancy, Clarksburg, minimum wage and more.
It was Rice’s second news conference since he was elected Council President last month.
