Council Considering a Law Change for Tipped Employees

The Montgomery County Council will hold a public hearing at 1:30 p.m. on June 9, on Expedited Bill 24-15 that would modify the amount of the tip credit an employer can use to calculate the minimum wage for a tipped employee working in the County.Restaurant picture

The bill also would require an employer of a tipped employee to submit quarterly wage reports; require the County Executive to establish an online reporting system for quarterly wage reports; and generally amend the law governing the minimum wage for a tipped employee working in the County.

The public hearing will be held in the Third Floor Hearing Room of the Council Office Building, at 100 Maryland Avenue in Rockville. The meeting will be televised live by County Cable Montgomery (CCM—Cable Channel 6 on Comcast and RCN, Channel 30 on Verizon) and can be viewed via streaming through the County website at www.montgomerycountymd.gov.

Those interested in testifying at the public hearing can sign up by calling 240.777.7803. The deadline to sign up is June 8 at 5 p.m. Call 240.777.7910 to obtain copies of the bill here.
