The Montgomery County Council’s Public Safety Committee at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, will hold a worksession to review the County’s response to Hurricane Sandy in October. In a meeting of the Health and Human Services Committee that also will begin at 9:30 a.m., there will be a discussion of how implementation of the Affordable Care Act will impact Maryland and Montgomery County.
The Montgomery County Council’s Public Safety Committee at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 6, will hold a worksession to review the County’s response to Hurricane Sandy in October. In a meeting of the Health and Human Services Committee that also will begin at 9:30 a.m., there will be a discussion of how implementation of the Affordable Care Act will impact Maryland and Montgomery County.
The HHS Committee, which is chaired by George Leventhal and includes Councilmembers Nancy Navarro and Craig Rice, will meet in the Seventh Floor Hearing Room of the Council Office Building at 100 Maryland Ave. in Rockville. The meeting will be televised live by County Cable Montgomery (CCM—Cable Channel 6 on Comcast and RCN, Channel 30 on Verizon). The broadcast also will be streamed through the County Web site atwww.montgomerycountymd.gov.
President Obama signed the comprehensive health reform Affordable Care Act into law in March 2010. Uma Ahluwalia, the director of the County’s Department of Health and Human Services, will be among those talking with the committee.
The Public Safety Committee, which is chaired by Phil Andrews and includes Councilmembers Roger Berliner and Marc Elrich, will meet in the Third Floor Conference Room with representatives of the County Fire and Rescue Service, the Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, the Park Police, the Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Correction and Rehabilitation regarding how the County prepared—and fared—from the largest hurricane ever to hit the East Coast.
