Council Approves Funds to Provide Assistance to Low-Income Households

The Montgomery County Council approved a $5 million special appropriation to provide low-income households with additional assistance during the COVID-19 emergency.

The programs has begun to distribute funds to households identified through current Department of Health and Human Services programs. The funds are expected to be received early next week and they are intended for residents who are not eligible for COVID-19-related state and federal aids.

“The additional $5 million special appropriation will provide financial support for community members who continue to face economic hardships,” said the County Council in a press release. They will seek federal and state reimbursement for costs associated with the response to COVID-19.
